Following the release of the Blueprint to Decarbonize the U.S. Transportation Sector, the Department of Energy recently announced $118 million in investments in 17 projects to accelerate the development of biofuels production.

Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm said in a press release, “Biofuels are a versatile tool, as they have the immediate potential to power our ships, trains, airlines and heavy-duty vehicles – a huge contributor to total carbon emissions – with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.”

This major grant project confirms President Joe Biden’s political commitment to completely reduce greenhouse gases from the transportation sector, by the year 2050.
