October and November mark a period of high risk for collisions with wildlife. The Ministère des Transports et de la MobilitÊ durable (MTMD) reminds us to be vigilant on Quebec roads.

Although signage and other preventive measures are in place, such as anti-wildlife fences and wildlife crossings, the risks remain. From 2020 to 2022, nearly 6,952 accidents involving large wildlife were recorded yearly. Deer topped the list, followed by moose, caribou and black bear. Vigilance remains our best ally.

⚠️ Safety tips:

  • Be especially vigilant at dawn and dusk.
  • If you suspect the presence of animals, slow down immediately.
  • Alert other drivers to the potential presence of animals by repeatedly applying your brakes.
  • Avoid sudden maneuvers.
  • If a collision seems unavoidable, slow down and brake gently.
