Hello, bonjour, buenos dias, bom dia, buongiorno, namastey,

On Friday, February 12th, the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service of Canada (FMCS) informed the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) and the Port of Montreal Longshoremen’s Union that labour negotiations between these two parties were suspended until further notice.

While the truce between the two parties is coming to an end on March 21st and despite the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Canadian economy, the Port of Montreal strongly hopes that both parties will reach a new agreement as quickly as possible in order to avoid another work stoppage by the longshoremen.

This situation is similar to the one that occurred last summer: a 19-day work stoppage by Port of Montreal longshoremen. A similar suspension could result in significant delays in the supply chain and higher transportation costs for Port of Montreal clients.

Our team is closely monitoring this situation and will keep you informed of the most recent updates.
