The Maritime Employers Association (MEA) and the Port of Montreal longshoremen union concluded a seven-month truce last August after a 19-day strike. However, this truce is coming to an end on March 21st.

Both parties have made a commitment to not speak to the media throughout the truce. The Port of Montreal strongly hopes that the two parties will reach a final agreement since it is an essential element to the Canadian economy and nearly 20,000 direct and indirect jobs depend on it.

To date, mediation continues between both parties. A meeting was held this week between the mediators and the Port of Montreal Longshoremen’s Union. Another meeting will be held shortly between the employer and the mediators.
