Did you know that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has given California permission to proceed with its own emissions standards for heavy-duty trucks, despite calls from the industry for a single national standard?

The decision was hailed by the nonprofit organization CALSTART as a way to fight climate change and protect public health, but was criticized by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) as “harmful and unrealistic.”

The new standards include extended warranty periods for emissions on diesel engines and requirements for manufacturers to produce and sell increasing amounts of zero-emission trucks. CALSTART sees this as a step forward for the industry and job creation, while the ATA warns of future supply chain crises.

The decision divides opinions among industry and environmental organizations.
