We want to rectify information recently circulated concerning the requirements applicable to wood packaging materials in the United States.

Contrary to what was communicated, the requirements for exporting these materials between Canada and the United States have not changed.

Since 2005, an exemption has allowed the movement of wood packaging materials between Canada and the U.S. without treatment or stamping as long as they are accompanied by the appropriate documents proving their Canadian or U.S. origin. This exemption does not apply to packaging materials exported to Hawaii and the U.S. territories, which must still meet ISPM 15 requirements.

We apologize for the confusion and remain at your disposal for further questions or clarifications.

Please do not hesitate to contact your local CFIA office for further details.Â
