Due to the most recent congestions in Canadian port and rail terminals, some rail lines have agreed to begin transiting loaded containers destined for Montreal to Valleyfield QC’s rail yard. The objective is to increase the volume of imports that can leave the ports, thus reducing the anchorage time of container ships in Canadian port terminals.

The port terminals would select the import containers that are destined for Montreal based on the stock that is already grounded and would load them onto wagons which routes would be reviewed and destined towards Valleyfield. These operations would be communicated to the rail lines which would then relay the information to the corresponding freight forwarders within 24 hours prior of the trains’ departures from the origin terminals (ex : Vancouver BC).

Please be sure to review this with your freight forwarder.
